Family Information Service (FIS)

 

 

Manchester Family Information Service is a directory which provides free advice, help and support.

 

Contact FIS for information on child care options, family support and support for working parents.  It is free advice, help and support for families with children aged 0-19 years.

 

 

FIS keeps families informed about child care and related services:

  • Day nurseries and registered child minders.
  • SureStart Children's Centres.
  • Before and after school clubs, and holiday clubs.
  • Adult and toddler clubs.
  • Free early education places for 3 and 4 year olds.
  • Support for children with disabilities up to the age of 25 years old.
  • Choosing child care - things to look for and questions to ask.
  • Tax credit and child care vouchers.
  • Sport and leisure activities.

 

FIS can also help you find out about:

  • Parenting.
  • Parenting courses.
  • Parent tip sheets.
  • Legal issues.
  • Schools and colleges.
  • Health.
  • Keeping your children safe.
  • Money matters.
  • Youth provision.
  • Outside play.

 

FIS can offer you advice on becoming a child care provider

They offer information, advice and support on:

  • Becoming a registered child minder.
  • Setting up day care and out of school services (Ofsted process).
  • Key documents to help provide quality child care.

 

Their Parents Direct Service can help you find out about your rights as a working parent including:

  • Maternity and paternity leave.
  • Flexible working.
  • Time off for dependants.
