Types of absence

 

 

All schools must show the difference between authorised and unauthorised absences.  This is a Government requirement.

 

 

Authorised absences

• Illness
• Medical or dental appointments which cannot be arranged outside school hours
• Holidays with parents (permission MUST have been requested and authorised by the Headteacher prior to the holiday being taken)
• Religious holidays (which have been authorised by the Headteacher)

 

Unauthorised absences

• Truancy
• Holidays with parents that have not been authorised by the Headteacher
• Holidays with parents that extended the period which the Headteacher has authorised
• Staying at home to look after younger children or sick relatives
• Going shopping
• Any absence which the school has not been informed about, either by telephone, text or email
• Arriving at school atter 9:30am with no medical evidence of appointments
