Holidays in term time |
The Pupil Registration Regulations 2006 confirm that schools have the discretion to allow up to 10 days absence in a school year for a family holiday if circumstances warrant it. It is not a parental right and it is at the discretion of the Headteacher as to whether pupils are allowed to go on holiday during term time.
All parents must make a formal request to take any child out of school for family holidays. Requests to take children out of school during term time must be made through the School Office. Each holiday request will be judged individually and authorisation of holidays will be based on the child's attendance figures up to the point when the holiday was requested. The overall attendance percentage for the child will determine whether or not the holiday will be authorised.
Parents will be discouraged from taking pupils in Year 2 and Year 6 on extended holidays because of the impact this will have on their SATs.
When a holiday is authorised, parents/carers will receive a letter from the Headteacher stating how many days school will authorise, we will also inform you of what will occur if the pupil fails to attend on the agreed return date.
If a parent/carer takes a child on holiday without the Headteachers authorisation then they will incur legal consequences from the Local Authority.
The Pupil Registration Regulations 2006 also enables school to delete from their roll any pupil who fails to attend on the agreed return date.
