Nursery Admissions

 

 

Admissions for Nursery Class

We offer up to 52 places each year for children wanting to join our Nursery Class.

 

We have two intakes, one in September for the older children and one in January for the younger children.  Our intake for Nursery is usually phased over a period of two weeks which allows us to spend quality time getting to know each individual child.

 

Children's names are placed on our Nursery waiting list and places are allocated by the school in the following priority order:

• Looked-after children or children in public care.
• Children are admitted in age order (oldest first).
• Children who live nearest are given priority if there are not enough places.
• Preference is given to children who have a brother or sister already attending the school.  If there are not enough places, then these children are admitted in age order (oldest first).

 

Please note that the following do not influence your chances of getting a Nursery place for your child:

• The length of time your child's name has been registered on our waiting list.
• The length of time you have lived in the local area.

 

Applying for a Nursery Place

To apply for a Nursery place you need to contact school directly.  You can put your child's name on our waiting list at any time.  Once we have confirmed a final list of all those wanting a place, we allocate places based on the above criteria.  If we cannot offer you a place, your child's name will remain on our waiting list and we will contact you should a place become available during the year.

 

There is a settling in policy in the Nursery.  Children start in the morning and as soon as they settle they can stay longer until they are attending full time.  This will always be discussed with you and with the childs best interest as the first consideration.  If you want to stay with your child to help them settle please discuss this with the class teacher.  Please note, we do not offer part time places in our Nursery class.

 

A place in the Nursery class does not guarantee a place in the Reception class.  The whole procedure has to be applied again to all the names on the waiting list for Reception places.  This is in accordance with Manchester City Councils Education Department guidelines.
